The Universal Catalog contains the holdings from all
University System of Georgia Libraries in a single, unified database, with real
time links to holdings and item information from the contributing catalogs.
GIL Express remote requests are made through the Universal
Catalog at: http://giluc.usg.edu/
Items included in the Universal Catalog that do not
circulate through GIL Express are available for in-library use at the Holding
library.

- Search for the desired book in the South Georgia College local catalog
GIL@SGC at: http://gil.sgc.edu
When you do not retrieve local catalog results, you will be
redirected to search in the Universal Catalog. You may also search the
Universal Catalog directly at
http://giluc.usg.edu for the desired book.
- When you find a book in the Universal Catalog you want to borrow, click
on the “GIL Express Request” button in the top menu line on the screen.
Then:
- Select your Home institution of South Georgia College from the drop down
menu;
- Enter your library patron barcode number found on the back of your SGC
picture ID card;
- Enter your last name;
- Click on the button “Logon for USG Gil Express;”
- Re-enter your SGC library patron barcode number on the Request form;
- Select your choice of Pick-up Library location from the drop down menu,
usually South Georgia College;
- Click on the “Submit” button.
Be sure to LOGOFF at the end of your session!
Keeping track of your Materials:
MY ACCOUNT
You can easily track the materials you have requested or checked out on your “MY
ACCOUNT” record.
From any screen in the GIL@SGC or in the Universal Catalog, click on “My
Account” to logon to your personal GIL library account. Enter:
- Your Home institution of South Georgia College
- Your SGC library patron barcode number
- Your Last name
Request Information section:
- Requests Pending header: Requests are listed with each status as each
item moves through the process. When status of “In transit to” appears, the
book should reach SGC within a couple days.
- Items Available header: These items are now available for you to pick up
at the SGC Library Circulation Desk. Items are held for 10 days, until the
expiration date noted for each title.
Items Checked Out section:
- Materials checked out from several USG libraries will be listed in
alphabetical library order after your Home institution library checkouts.
- Loan period: 28 days
- Online renewals: 2 [unless item recalled]
Renewing online:
Prior to the Due Date shown, check off the box in front of
each title you wish to renew and click the “Renew Items” button.
Each person is responsible for monitoring his/her library account.
Any material overdue with any USG library will result in borrowing
privileges being blocked at all USG libraries and a block being placed in
the Home institution’s Registrar/Bursar system.

- Average delivery time is 4 working days
- Pick up can be from any USG library
- Return can be to any USG library
- Loan period is 28 days
- Two renewals are allowed
- On site borrowing from any USG library
- South Georgia College current photo ID card acceptable at any USG library
Be sure you have your SGC ID card barcode activated by SGC Library Staff to establish your
personal “MY ACCOUNT” GIL Library record.
